During the week of 22-27 March, Moscow Metro had a record number of rides: more than 7 million passengers per day, which is the highest figure since the beginning of the pandemic. The city’s Department of Transport reports that the ridership has restored by 80%, the restoration being most fast near railway stations, large enterprises and shopping malls.
In other news, Moscow Metro reports that 8 million passengers have already used the stations of the second phase of Line 15: Yugo-Vostochnaya, Okskaya, Stakhanovskaya, Nizhegorodskaya, Aviamotornaya and Lefortovo. The section was opened on 27 March 2020, two of the stations (Aviamotornaya and Lefortovo) are to become part of the Big Circle Line.
The Big Circle Line is the second circle line in Moscow and the world’s largest metro construction project. Planned to be finished in 2022, it will have 70 km served by 31 stations and will reduce citizens’ travel time by 30 minutes — passengers will no longer have to travel through the crowded central stations to make their trips.
