Moscow to open the first railway terminal in 100 years

Moscow’s tenth railway terminal will be a part of the transport hub comprising Metro, MCC and other types of public transport.

Moscow is going to launch its tenth railway terminal — Vostochniy (Eastern) — in May 2021, reports the city’s Department of Transport. It will become part of a transport hub that includes the Moscow Metro stations Cherkizovskaya (Line 1) and Lokomotiv (MCC).

«For the first time in the history of Moscow in the last 100 years, a new train station is being built for both short- and long-distance trains,» — said Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

The new station will meet the standards of Moscow Transport. A multi-level building in the high-tech style will have everything necessary for a comfortable trip, including Wi-Fi, power bank rental, baby-care rooms, waiting room and food courts.

Most of long-distance trains will be transferred from Kurskiy to Vostochniy Railway Station, which will allow launching the D4 Line of Moscow Central Diameters.

«The Vostochiy (Eastern) station will become part of a unique transport hub that will comprise MCC, Metro, on-ground public transport and long-distance trains. We expect that the ridership of the Cherkizovo hub will increase by a third, up to 74 thousand passengers per day <...>. In 2025, the Cherkizovo hub will make the top ten biggest hubs in Moscow with ridership exceeding 133 thousand passengers every day», — says Deputy Mayor for Transport Maxim Liksutov.
