As Moscow Government gradually lifts Covid-19 restrictions, Muscovites return to public transport.
Number of rides in Moscow Metro (including the Moscow Central Circle) rose by 1.4 million in the last week of January, compared to the previous week. The general ridership has restored to 69%, 4 percentage points higher than week before.
The MCC, the on-surface Metro circle line launched in 2016, became the leader in restoration with 2.6 million passengers and 83% YoY ridership.
Moscow Metro continues to carry out thorough and regular disinfection measures on trains and infrastructure. The anti-pandemic policy of the network, that, among other things, include free hand sanitizers on every station, obligatory masks and communication via screens in trains, is recognized by the WHO and UITP as one of the most efficient.
Previously in November 2020, Moscow Metro had launched the Early Bird project that encourages passengers to take metro during off-peak hours. The project, available on Lines 7 and 15, has succeeded in reducing crowdedness by approximately 3% in the morning peak hours by the end of January.
