Moscow’s ticketing system is gradually going national, as new regions are ready to adopt it
Troika card, the pillar of Moscow’s ticketing system, might expand to new regions. According to the Transport Department of Moscow, a relevant agreement has already been signed with the Perm Krai region (2.6 million residents); the card is also being tested in the Far-East city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur (245 thousand residents). It is for the first time that the geographical scope of Troika goes beyond Central Russia. In total, the number of Russian regions that negotiate on adopting Moscow’s ticketing system has grown to 35.
Apart from new payment options, Troika offers access to the mobile app with a remote top-up feature, loyalty programme and a range of city services. As the new ticketing system is adopted, the cost of trips is expected to drop for passengers. In addition, the card is applicable in any region that has adopted Troika.
«Implementing a unified tool to pay both for transport and related services will popularize the public transportation in other regions, and will help avoid extra costs while testing new solutions. Currently, there are different payment systems and technological platforms in different regions. Frequently they lack enough features to ensure comfortable user experience, already implemented in the Troika card,» — says Vladimir Sviridenkov, transport expert.
The Troika card has been expanding its presence in the Russian regions since November 2020. It is currently available in Tula Region and Moscow Region and is expected to be launched in 2021 in Leningrad Region that encircles the city of Saint Petersburg.
