Moscow Metro received 551 new metro cars in 2020, according to Deputy Mayor for Transport Maxim Liksutov who presented the results of the work of Moscow Transport in the last year to Moscow Government Presidium. He added that 335 of them are the newest Moskva-2020 model which are now used on Lines 5 and 6. This created more than 500 thousand additional passenger seats. The total renewal of metro rolling stock has reached 63 percent (3,548 new cars since 2010).
Moreover, in 2020, the integration of the MCC (Moscow Central Circle) with the radial directions of the railway and metro was fully completed. Passengers received four transfers to the metro and five to the MCD. Now there are 36 such transfers.
At the request of Muscovites, the working hours of the Passenger Mobility Center (assistance for passengers with reduced mobility) were increased — now its employees work according to the schedule of the Moscow Metro — from 05:30 to 01:00. Accordingly, low-mobility passengers will be able to use Moscow transport all the time.
The coronavirus put a lot on hold, but Moscow avoided a complete lockdown. Transport worked at the maximum schedule, the pace of development did not decrease, and our city is now rapidly recovering. In 2020, on behalf of the Mayor, we supported those who fought the infection and helped Muscovites. Doctors and volunteers were given more than 51 thousand free tickets for public transport. They have left their cards on paid parking lots more than 90 thousand times. More than 60 thousand doctors and patients used special buses and taxis during the pandemic — said Maxim Liksutov.
According to Mr. Liksutov, 15 new and reconstructed MCD (Moscow Central Diameters) were opened, and the renewal of rolling stock was fully completed. Now only new trains run on D1 and D2 lines. Since their launch, they have been used by over 150 million passengers, who have made more than 18 million free metro transfers. 3.43 million additional passenger seats per day were created. The minimum train interval is six minutes (before the launch of the MDC, there were breaks of up to two hours in the middle of the day), due to the new schedule, almost 80 percent of passengers save up to 44 minutes of travel time daily.
As for the FacePay project that had been announced in September, 100% of Metro and MCC stations are already equipped with cameras with face recognition modules.
The plans for 2021 include the opening of the stations of the Big Circle Line (Line 11) and the delivery of 337 new Moskva-2020 railcars, as well as the construction and reconstruction of 11 Moscow Metro stations. “Virtual” Troika project will be launched in 2021 as well. In addition, Deputy Mayor Liksutov announced preparation for the launch of river transport: development of berths, development of electric vessels for moving along the Moskva River.
