The decision to expand the functionality of the system was made after a resident of Moscow drifted for about an hour along the Moscow River on an ice floe
On the night of April 8, Moscow rescuers found a woman sitting on a brick of ice in the Moscow River, 30 meters from the shore. The victim born in 1995 with signs of hypothermia was hospitalized. The woman could not explain the reason for being on the ice.
After this incident, the Traffic Management Center of the Moscow Government announced that they were ready to «train» the intelligent river transport monitoring system to identify not only ships, but also people.
«Summer passenger navigation on the Moskva River opened on April 13th. We must be prepared for any situations that may happen on the water. When creating a water area monitoring system, we focused on water transport: passenger, freight and even small-sized. But „smart“ technologies are smart enough to adapt to urgent tasks. And since there are real examples of people drifting along the Moskva River on bricks of ice and other objects, we are ready to improve our technologies. Safety on the road, in the air and in the water is a priority», — said Dmitry Gorshkov, Deputy Head of Moscow Traffic Control Center.
River walks are becoming more and more popular in Moscow. Every year the number of excursion ships carrying residents and guests of the capital is growing. In the future there are plans to launch a new type of urban transport — water transport. In this regard, in 2020, a control and monitoring system for water transport was launched. Currently, 111 cameras monitor the situation on the water in real time and allow you to quickly respond to emergency situations. Also, the monitoring system records the facts of violation of traffic rules and anchorage of vessels.
