The Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin opened a new modern terminal at Vnukovo station. Some changes occurred after the reconstruction. In fact, the suburban station has become the city terminal. Vnukovo station is located in the suburbs of Moscow. In the 2020, 4 stations were opened on the perspective MCD-4. By 2021, it is planned to open 2 stations and renovate 6 more, 2 of which will have interchanges to metro stations. The development of the diameter is continuing, new stations are under construction, Kokoshkino station is ready on 75 %. There are two platforms with a canopy. Finishing works are carried out, it is left to install elevators and escalators. Shops, residential complexes, restaurants will be opened next to the new terminal making this place attractive for the living and business.
The MCD-4 is a link between the Moscow suburbs, the city centre and the Moscow region. The diameter will be 86 long and will include 37 stations. It will give passengers an opportunity to build more convenient and time-wise routes.
It is estimated that about 30 million people will use the new diameter it is equal to doubled population of Paris, London and Berlin.
The MCD is an above-ground metro which allows passengers to travel from the suburbs to the city centre. Passengers can switch to the metro, the MCC and the surface transport. Paying for travelling becomes simpler. Passengers used to buy a separate ticket on the railway, and now there is a single payment system for all modes of the public transport. The intervals between trains do not exceed 7 minutes in peak hours. The MCD-1 and the MCD-2 were launched on the November 21, 2019. The MCD-1 is 52 km long and it includes 25 stations. The MCD-2 is 80 km and there are 35 stations. The launch of the MCD-3, the MCD-4 and the MCD-5 is planned for 2023-2024.
