Two more women became locomotive crew workers in the Central Suburban Passenger Company, the largest railway carrier in Moscow.
Until 2021, the law did not allow women to be suburban train drivers. Moscow Transport actively participated in the change of legislation, and since January 1, 2021 this obsolete norm has been cancelled.
Now there are 6 women working in Central Suburban Passenger Company. This number will constantly increase. The policy of admitting women locomotive crew workers is a part of the concept. It is made for sustainable development of Moscow Railway Carriers.
Elena Lysenko-Saltykova became the first woman suburban train driver, she also comments on the recruitment of the female locomotive crews. «Since January, one of the important things in my life occurred, because I became the first woman suburban train driver in modern Russia. I’ve been striving for this for 10 years. Since I was 13, I’ve been practicing on the children’s railroad», — said Elena.
To become a suburban train driver, it is necessary to work at least 2 years as an assistant and pass the corresponding tests. During the course, future suburban train drivers are taught the train setup, pneumatics, electrics, mechanics, rules of technical operation of metro and the rolling stock setup. Psycho-physiological tests are mandatory, they check-up the ability of the concentration.
