On June 4, at the SPIEF’21 (St. Petersburg International Economic Forum) Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin and General Director of National Payment Card System (operator of MIR payment system) Vladimir Komlev signed a cooperation agreement.
The agreement provides for improving the efficiency of existing cashless payment tools for MIR cards, cooperation in the development of innovative payment methods such as Face Pay and other modern technologies, and joint work within the unified mobile MaaS platform. Cooperation with National Payment Cards System will also contribute to the implementation of the “virtual” Troika smartcard that will be available in smartphones.
With MIR payment system, we will develop new transport payment services. For example, we will be able to use MIR payment system technologies when implementing Troika virtual smartcard, which can be stored on the phone – said Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin.
Given the expansion of Troika smartcard to other regions, not only Muscovites will receive all the updates and the most convenient payment methods.
It was previously reported that Sergey Sobyanin signed a cooperation agreement with the heads of the Leningrad Region and Khabarovsk Territory on integrating Troika in their transport systems. Troika smartcard is already available in Moscow Region, Tula Region, Yaroslavl Region, Perm Territory, cities of Ulyanovsk and Komsomolsk-on-Amur and is expanding its geography.
According to the Department of Transport, adopting Moscow’s ticketing system will allow regions to provide passengers with favourable fare system and discounts, analyze passenger behavior to quickly configure the route networks, integrate museums and leisure facilities in the transport payment systems, reduce queues to ticket offices by 40%. Troika owners can use their cards in any region where the system is available. At the moment, more than 40 regions of Russia have announced interest in adopting Moscow’s ticketing system.
