Moscow ranked 1st in the world in terms of transport efficiency according to the 2021 McKinsey report Key elements of success in urban transportation systems, as the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport Maksim Liksutov stated in the framework of the annual Moscow Urban Forum held on 1-4 July 2021. The efficiency index reveals how quickly and predictablyone can move around the city. The report notes that “Moscow’s transport system has low underground waiting times, high speeds during rush hour, and a significantly above-average proportion of dedicated bus lanes”.
Moscow has the lowest waiting time for the metro, one of the highest speeds of public transport during the morning rush hour, as well as one of the highest proportions of dedicated lanes relative to the length of the street and road network, - Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
According to the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for TransportMaksim Liksutov, since 2010, Moscow opened 150 stations of Metro, MCC and MCD, which provided 3.8 million residents with available transport near to their homes – a figure comparable to populations of two big cities such as Novosibirskor Hamburg.
In his speech, Maksim Liksutov touched upon the passenger security as a priority of Moscow Transport.
Every minute, there are 1.5 million people in Metro. Metro is much safer than any street. We are proud of this; it is a huge merit of our security service, the biometrics system and, of course, the police. <…> We are creating a transport that you can trust. If a mother brings a child to Metro and lets him go to school alone — this is the trust that we count on and for which we are building this huge system of security, convenience and comfort of urban transport,- Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayorof Moscow for Transport.
Moreover, Maksim Liksutov announced that, beginning in 2021, Moscow will stop purchasing diesel buses for passenger transit, switching to electric buses only. According to Deputy Mayor, Moscow will install approximately 200 EV chargers each year to promote personal electric vehicles.
