The passenger traffic on the MCD and the MCC recovered from the pandemic faster than on other modes of urban transport in Moscow

The passenger traffic on the MCD and the MCC not only recovered after the pandemic but also increased comparing to 2019. This is thanks to the speed, convenience and affordable price of travelling from the Moscow region to the city center or travel inside Moscow. The MCD and the MCC are also part of the transport framework.

After the pandemic the passenger traffic on the MCD and the MCC recovered faster than on other modes of urban transport. In the first half of 2021, the MCD carried 14% more passengers than before pandemic – 83.4 million passengers, which is equal to the entire German population. In the first 6 months of 2021, the MCC carried 71.1 million passengers, so that the passenger traffic increased by 1.7% compared to the same period of 2019. At the moment, on average, the MCD together with the MCC transport more than 800 thousand passengers daily.

The MCC and the MCD are the leaders in terms of passenger flow recovery among all the other modes of public transport in Moscow, where the traffic not only recovered but also increased during the pandemic. This increase is expected and justified. When launching the MCC, we relied on reorganization of industrial areas into investment-attractive areas for residential and commercial real estate development. Today, hundreds of thousands of new residents and employees of new offices travel by the MCC every day. The diameters allowed to expand the borders of Moscow, so that the residents of the suburbs are able to travel easily and quickly from the Moscow region to the citycenter. At the same time, we see that the passenger flow of the diameters is also growing thanks to short trips inside Moscow, when an alternative route along the MCD is chosen instead of the metro or surface transport. So, analyzing how quickly and confidently our passengers give preference to rail transport, we will continue to prioritize the development of the MCC and the MCD», – noted Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

The MCD and the MCC are an integral part of the large transport system of Moscow and the Moscow region. The MCC was launched in 2016, its length is 54 km, there are 31 station and 18 of them have interchanges to metro. D1 was opened in 2019, a diameter length is 52 km, 25 stations, of which 9 have an interchange to metro. D2 was also launched in 2019. Its length is 80 km, including 35 stations, of which 12 have an interchange to metro. The launch of the third diameter (D3) is planned for the end of 2022 - early 2023, D4 - in 2023, and D5 - in 2025.
