Maksim Liksutov on Moscow Metro and tram development

In his interview to MoskvichMag, Moscow’s Deputy Mayor for Transport Maksim Liksutov highlighted the development of Moscow urban transport including Moscow Metro and tram network.

Maksim Liksutov outlined the high pace of Metro construction reaching 7-9 new stations per year. According to Deputy Mayor, the scale of construction is comparable only to Chinese metro systems. Since 2011, 4 million Moscow residents received new stations within walking distance. The launch of new stations results in increasing prices of apartments – up to 15-25%.Maksim Liksutov added that the city plans to launch new Moscow Central Diameters lines in the nearest future: D3 – in 2023, D4 – in 2024 and D5 – in 2025.

Moreover, Maksim Liksutov spoke about the development of tram infrastructure that since 2021 is managed by Moscow Metro. According to Deputy Mayor, the city plans to launch public hearings on two new tram lines. The first one would be built in the south of the city and would pass Prazhskaya metro station and Pokrovskoye station of Line D2 (MCD). At the same time, Moscow plans to construct a new tram depot for 100 vehicles. The second line is planned to be located in the east of the city.

"The tram is the second after the metro in terms of carrying capacity and comfort; it seriously helps in terms of the number of seats and the speed of movement. Our tram carries 500 thousand passengers a day, it has great prospects. We are in favor of developing electric transport, especially such a serious one as the tram", - said Deputy Mayor for Transport Maksim Liksutov.

Deputy Mayor also added that in 5 years, Moscow’s urban transport will be mostly electric, reaching approximately 90% compared to 70% today.
