The Moscow Metro presented a new fare payment equipment at Prospekt Mira station (Line 6). The new validator is now being tested, reports the Moscow Department of Transport.
So far, the new validator reads Troika cards and paper tickets, but its functionality will be expanded as new payment options are added. The device will make payments faster: it has higher reading pace, it will not be necessary to unlock a smartphone(firstly, this option will be available for Android phones). It has large informational color LED-screens, showing the status of the ticket and the balance, for the visually impaired there is a bright outline and Braille. In the future, it is planned to introduce QR-code fare payment at such turnstiles.
“As a part of the Digital Economy national project, approved by the President of Russia, we introduce primarily Russian technologies and solutions. This year, all the Moscow Metroturnstiles will accept bank cards and the Virtual Troika to pay fares. The equipment we plan to supply is made by domestic manufacturers using Russian software. Thus, on behalf of the Moscow Mayor we can improve passenger comfort, reduce queues at ticket offices, make a positive impact on the environment, as well as give impetus to the development of high-tech Russian industry”, - said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
Moscow constantly improves its ticketing system with new high-tech solutions. In 2021, the Moscow Metro introduced two brand new technologies: the Face Pay (biometric fare payment) and the Virtual Troika (smartcard stored in the wallet app). The development of the ticketing system of Moscow has been recognized at the international level (Transport Ticketing Awards 2020, 2021).
