The length of the electric bus routes in Moscow has almost doubled in a year. It is already 790 km long, which is even more than the distance between Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Almost twice as many Moscow citizens have received the most environmentally friendly transport, which operates without harmful emissions and is noiseless, making daily trips more comfortable. Today 1000 Moscow e-buses transport passengers on 68 bus routes, which is more than in any European or American city.
Electric buses were launched in Moscow more than 3 years ago, in 2018. In the meantime, this innovative surface public transport has proved its efficiency. Besides, Moscow is now actively developing charging infrastructure. Each electric bus carries about 85 people. This transport is also convenient for passengers with disabilities: electric buses are provided with a low-floor, ramps, and accumulation areas. Besides, electric buses are equipped with gadget chargers on the handrails, climate control systems and media screens. Moreover, they perfectly deal with temperature extremes. The temperature range of its work is from -40 to +40 degrees Celsius.
“On the instructions of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyaninfrom 2021 we stopped buying diesel buses in favor of the electric buses and systematically transfer the network of the surface transport routes to the environmentally friendly and modern eco-buses. Now there are 1000 electric buses on 68 routes in Moscow. All electric buses were made in Russia. They are produced by KAMAZ and GAZ Group. In addition, they are serviced under a life cycle contract, which means that the manufacturer undertakes to ensure that each electric bus has uninterrupted access to the line. This year we plan to buy another 450-500, and by 2023 there will be more than 2,000 electric buses in the city,” – said Maxim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
“We are actively developing the surface public eco-transport to make the quality of life in the city better. Moscow already has 790 kilometers of green bus routes with 1,000 electric buses operating daily. The electric bus is an environmentally friendly form of the urban transport. In 2021 the use of electric buses has reduced the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere by more than 30 thousand tons. Replacing a diesel bus with the electric one reduces CO2 emissions by 60.7 tons per year. We plan to continue increasing the number of the greentransport on the city routes because it will help to reduce emissions into the atmosphere and improve the environmental situation in Moscow,” – said Nikolay Asaul, General Director of Mosgortrans.
