Testing of the articulated electric bus has begun in Moscow 2 months ago. Since then, the innovative electric bus has proved its efficiency and already transported almost 15 thousand passengers. The new articulated electric bus is completely ready for the operation and run along the T34 route (Park Pobedy - Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station), which is one of the longest and busiest e-bus routes in the city. The test will last until September, 2022. After the test the city plans to purchase such vehicles in order to service high demand bus routes.
The main advantages of the articulated bus are the electric heater and the ability to carry 1.5 times more passengers. The innovative articulated electric bus has space for 135 passengers, a range of 90 kilometres and a powerful battery. The charging process takes 20 minutes.
«Moscow is considered to be the leader in the electric bus fleet in Europe. On the instructions of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin we continue to develop environmentally friendly public transport and to testthe first Russian articulated electric bus. This spacious electric bus can carry 1.5 times more people. Besides, the range of the articulated e-bus has increased by almost 2 times compared to the regular e-bus. Since the beginning of the test work on the t34 route, the articulated e-bus has already transported almost 15 thousand passengers. This testing will allow us to carefully analyse all the indicators and decide on its further operation in Moscow», — said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
In 2021, Moscow has stopped buying diesel buses for the major surface public transport operator. Today the city is focused on eco-friendly alternatives and is keeping up with worldwide electric vehicle market trends. Nowadays 1000 electric buses operate in Moscow. Next year, Moscow plans to buy 600 electric vehicles more and start to purchase articulated e-buses to make the entire city transport fleet eco-friendly.
