One of the main advantages of the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) is free interchanges to the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and the Moscow Metro. During the first two diameters operation, passengers made more than 164 million free interchanges from the MCD to the MCC or metro and have already saved 7 billion RUB (115 million $ ).
Overall, there are 22 interchanging stations on the MCD. By the end of the year it is planned to open one more station - Maryina Roscha MCD-2, where passengers will be able to make an interchange to the metro Line 10 and in the future to the Big Circle Line (BCL) and the MCD-4.
A single seamless ticketing system with free interchanges between different modes of public transport allows passengers to build convenient and time-saving routes, while saving significantly on fares. Passengers on the first two diameters already save up to 50% on trips within Moscow and up to 75% in the Moscow region.
«On the instructions of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we continue to develop the Moscow Rail Framework, including the work on the next diameters launch. Now, there are 22 interchanging stations on the first two diameters, with the launch of all 5 diameters, the number of such interchanging stations will grow to 67, meaning there will be even more opportunities to build multimodal trips», — noted Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport
There are already launched two MCD lines – the MCD-1 Odintsovo-Lobnya and the MCD-2 Nakhabino-Podolsk. The total number of stations – 61, 22 of which have interchange to the metro and the MCC. The MCD-1 was opened in 2019, the length of the diameter is 52 km, 25 stations, of which 9 stations with interchanges to the metro. The MCD-2 was also launched in 2019. Its length is 80 km, includes 36 stations, 13 of them have interchanges to the metro. The MCD-3 Leningrad-Kazansky will pass through the capital from the northwest to the southeast. The launch of the MCD-3 will improve transport accessibility for 24 Moscow districts. Its length will be 85 km. The MCD-4 Kievsko-Gorkovsky will go through the capital from west to east. It will be the longest transport artery in Moscow: its length will be 86 km.
Extensive works are now being carried out to develop the two prospective MCD-3 and MCD-4. Their launch is planned for late 2023 - early 2024. In order to launch them, Moscow is undertaking extensive works to develop track infrastructure and construct new railway stations. After their launch, there will be 138 MCD stations on the overground metro network. The prospective MCD-3 Leningrad-Kazansky will create a new 85 km railway line, which will connect Zelenograd and Ramenskoye. There will be 41 stations on the new diameter. 14 of them are interchanging stations with 21 interchange options to the metro, MCC and other diameter stations. The MCD-4 Kievsko-Gorkovsky will run through the capital from west to east. It will be the longest transport route in Moscow, its length will be 86 km. With the MCD-4 launch, the railway network will include 37 stations and after 2025, the number of stations will increase to 39.
