The Face Pay is launched at all Moscow Central Circle stations

On September 10, the Face Pay biometric fare payment system was launched at all stations of the Moscow Central Circle (MCC), the surface railway circle line operated by the Moscow Metro.

The face recognition fare payment system have been tested on the MCC since September 3. Now, the Face Pay is available at 85 turnstiles of all 31 MCC stations. Passengers can connect to the system using the Moscow Metro mobile app (available at Google Play and App Store). More than 190 thousand users have already registered in the Face Pay, with over 33 million rides made with the help of biometrics.

«On 6th anniversary of the Moscow Central Circle, on behalf of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, the Face Pay was launched at all stations. The service is available at 85 turnstiles at 31 MCC stations. We see that the demand for the service is growing and we will definitely increase the number of turnstiles with biometric payment. The face recognition fare payment system operates at 281 Moscow Metro stations and the MCC. Our ticketing system is one of the best in the world – for two years in a row, it has received the prestigious Transport Ticketing Award, the Oscar in the world of ticketing solutions», – noted Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

The Face Pay was launched in the Moscow Metro in October 2021.In addition to the MCC, the service is currently being tested in buses. By the end of the year, it is planned be launched on the river transport.

The MCC was opened on September 10, 2016. It is a surface urban railway circle line fully integrated in the Moscow Metro. In addition to improve passenger experience and providing new routes with convenient interchanges, the launch of the MCC began to transform formerly abandoned industrial zones into modern residential quarters and increased their economic activity.

Over the 6 years of the MCC operation, passengers have made about 790 million trips. On average, every day more than 550 thousand trips are made. The record of transportation for the entire time of operation was this year — on March 18, more than 598 thousand trips were recorded. Passenger traffic has increased by almost 60% since the launch. In the first year — 98 million trips and in the sixth - almost 157 million.

«In 6 years of operation, the MCC has become a popular mode of urban transport. The number of passengers is growing every year, about 790 million trips have been made since the launch. Therefore, on behalf of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we continue the development of the Moscow Central Circle. Together with colleagues from Russian Railways, we are considering the possibility of launching doubledecker trains here, this will increase the carrying capacity and not reduce the convenience of travel at the same time», – said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

Moscow is considering the launch of double-decker trains on the MCC. The main requirement for the future MCC train is that it must to be Russian-made.

«We believe that it should be a double-decker three-door train, based on the characteristics of passenger traffic at the MCC, designed for quick boarding and disembarking of passengers, frequent stops and short trips around the city. Two floors will allow you to distribute the flow of passengers: those who make a longer trip will travel comfortably on the second floor, those who need to travel only a couple of stops – it will be more convenient for them to go on the first floor», – said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

According to Maksim Liksutov, the issue is currently at the development stage.
