It was the longest bicycle season – almost 7 months. This year the bise-sharing service opened on April 20, and closed for the winter break on November 18 – the first time so late.
This year, 528 stations and more than 5.5 thousand bicycles were available to citizens in different areas of the city. For 5 years, the project scale has doubled. In 2015, there were 300 stations and 2600 bicycles. Since the launch of the Velobike city bike rental, a total of 1,600,000 people have been registered in the system.
Next year, 100 stations and 1,000 bicycles will be added. In winter, the Moscow transport complex will collect offers from residents regarding the station locations in 2020, and will also analyze the demand in 2019.
Today, Moscow bike rental is one of the leaders in terms of demand among residents. On average, there are 6.1 rides per bike per day in the capital, which is more than 2 times more than in London, one of the leading cities for bicycle rental with 2.6 rides per bike on average in the British capital.
“In Moscow, a lot of people use a bicycle as a “last mile” transport. We will do our best to make sure that there are more cyclists in the city, so that our rental bikes are used more often. Residents of Moscow can contact the Department of Transport with proposals for new places for bicycle stations next year,” – shared Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for transport.
