The Moscow bike-rental service will resume its work in April. This year, another 100 new bike stations will appear in Moscow, including those areas of the city where previously there were no rental points. In total, the bike park will replenish on one thousand bicycles.
“This season, Moscow residents and guests will be able to use 629 rental points and more than 6.5 thousand bicycles. Bicycles are especially convenient for short trips around the city. Using it, it is easy to get home from a metro station, or to go to work or a park,” – shared the Press Office of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of Moscow. Last year, the capital's bicycle rental service had the longest season in its history. At the request of the Moscow residents, the rental points were available for almost 7 months thanks to the weather conditions, – from April 20 to November 17, 2019.
In 2019, cyclists made five million trips around the city, and it is almost 17% more than in 2018. Over the two weeks of November, bicycles were rented more than 80 000 times, which indicates a great demand for Velobike in Moscow even during the autumn season. The Moscow bike-rental system is one of the fastest growing in the world. In five years, the project scale has doubled. In 2015, there were 300 stations and 2600 bicycles. In 2019, 528 stations and more than 5.5 thousand bicycles in different areas of the city were available to citizens. The most popular renting districts are Khamovniki, Tverskaya, Presnensky, Ostankino, Maryino, Ochakovo-Matveevskoe, Nagatinsky Zaton and Lefortovo.
